What to expect at Caney Spring UMC

Do I need to dress up?

Not at all. Come in whatever makes you comfortable. Jeans, shorts, dresses, work clothes, Sunday best. You’ll find a little bit of everything here. 

Will I be singled out as a visitor?

No. We’re glad you’re here, but we won’t ask you to stand up, introduce yourself, or wear a special name tag. You’re welcome to simply come in, find a seat, and worship with us.

What if I don’t know the words or what to do?

That’s completely okay. You don’t need to know the prayers, the hymns, or when to sit or stand. Follow along as much or as little as you’d like. Nobody is grading you.

Are children welcome?

Absolutely. Children are part of the church, not a distraction from it. Wiggles, whispers, questions, and the occasional dropped object are all part of having children in worship. We’re glad they’re here.

What if I have questions or doubts?

Bring them. Faith doesn’t require leaving your questions at the door. There is room here for curiosity, uncertainty, wrestling, wondering, and growing.

Can I receive Communion?

Yes. In The United Methodist Church, Christ’s table is open. You don’t have to be a member of Caney Spring, a United Methodist, or have everything figured out. If you desire to receive, you are welcome at the table.

Am I expected to give money?

No. Giving is an act of worship for those who consider Caney Spring their church home. Guests should never feel obligated to contribute.

What if I’m not sure what I believe?

You are still welcome. You don’t have to pretend, perform, or say you believe something you don’t. Come as you are, with whatever faith, doubt, hope, hurt, or questions you carry. There is room for you here.
